New Hope in Foster Care for Girls and Trans Youth Announced
A groundbreaking new initiative is offering fresh hope for girls and transgender youth in foster care, with a focus on creating safe, supportive environments tailored to their unique needs. The Foster Family Agency (FFA), created by Beloved Village, a program from the Young Women’s Freedom Center. This initiative aims to provide safe, nurturing homes for girls and transgender youth in California between 14 and 21.
The FFA challenges traditional foster care models by focusing on family togetherness and allowing youth to choose the community and caregivers that best support them. Alex Volpe, the Executive Director of Beloved Village and a Class of 2018 East Bay Fellow, emphasized the importance of honoring the voices of youth and families and providing them with the resources needed to thrive. Volpe’s extensive experience in social work and his innovative approach are key to the initiative’s mission of breaking cycles of harm linked to poverty, housing instability, and child welfare involvement.
