Equity Centered Organizational Structures

There is much emphasis, if not urgency, on centering equity in the work of nonprofit organizations, whether or not they have a social justice or social service mission. Join us in a participatory learning experience with four organizational leaders whose efforts to center equity in their organizations elevate the values of humility and trust, and prioritize the collective. Their journeys expand their capacities to counter dominant structural thinking and to re-imagine organizational culture. As we imagine a new future, hear from those who are already creating it.

Our Presenters:

Claudia Arroyo, Prospera

After serving as Co-Executive Director with Maria Rogers Pascual, Claudia Arroyo has recently stepped into the Executive Director role at Prospera, a non-profit community organization that works to grow Latina economic power through entrepreneurship, cooperative business ownership and leadership development. Claudia has been an active leader in immigrant rights, gender and violence prevention, gay and queer rights, and health promotion for underserved communities for over 15 years. In 2010 she founded the Latino Coalition against domestic and gender violence, La Red Latina, that brought together more than 35 organizations that serve, protect and empower Latina women in the Bay Area. Becoming a community worker has not been a choice but a need to demand equality and dignity in oppressed communities.

Ginna Brelsford, GSA Network

A Tlingit, queer woman originally from Juneau, Alaska, Ginna Brelsford is the Co-Executive Director at GSA Network, a next-generation racial and gender justice organization that works to build the leadership of trans and queer youth. Ginna is a proud alumna of Smith College with over 15 years of nonprofit financial, operations, and human resources experience in progressive social justice organizations including MassEquality, Nonprofit Finance Fund, and Environmental Justice Coalition for Water. In her time at GSA Network she has overseen the rapid expansion of staff, budget, and infrastructure during a period of organizational transformation. When she’s not obsessing over budget spreadsheets, she enjoys spending time with her family at their home in Oakland, CA.

Maria Rogers Pascual, Prospera

After many years as Co-Executive Director at Prospera, Maria Rogers Pascual recently joined the Haas Leadership Initiatives team in August 2020. Maria oversees efforts to bring leadership and organizational development resources to strengthen the movement for worker’s rights and opportunity in California. She brings her full self to her work and community: her experience growing up in a bi-cultural and bilingual family, her many years juggling family and work, her coaching practice, and her dedication to creative and contemplative practices. She brings insights gathered through many years of experience jump starting and running new organizations, leadership development initiatives, and income generating programs in the Bay Area and throughout Latin America.
