‘Moronic’: Nonprofits slam Lurie’s new rules on free drug supplies

Laura Guzman, a LeaderSpring Class of 2009 San Francisco Fellow, serves as the Executive Director of the National Harm Reduction Coalition. In response to San Francisco's new policy requiring city-funded programs to distribute drug use supplies only alongside counseling sessions and to prohibit public space distribution, Guzman criticized the rule as "moronic and antithetical to what we know works." She expressed concerns that the mandate could hinder nonprofits' ability to engage effectively with vulnerable populations and potentially limit access to essential harm reduction services.
